Herding crooks

The owner of Boardinghouse Udden, Allan manufactures Herding crooks using hazel and Åsen horn, Buffalo horn or Elm.
It takes a lot of work to bend and form the horn to become a nice handle. The horn has to be boiled to become soft and pliable and then pressed with a special tool. Next step is to form the horn with clamps and templates while adding heat until the shape is to satisfaction. The look is achieved by file and polishing. Next is to adapt the handle to the stick and put them together. Finally the whole crook is polished and then varnished in several layers which give it strength and brilliance.
